Learning how to love the God way means putting Him first in everything.
We live in a world that has taught us to prioritize ourselves and other unimportant things. However, that's not how we are meant to live; we are meant to put God first in everything, letting Him be the center of everything.
Giving God your first fruits makes Him order your steps; He makes what takes years take months or even days for you. It’s mainly about who or what your priority is. You need to learn how to put Him number one in everything. It’s about saying, “Lord, You come first before my plans, even my worries, or my fears, or my ambitions, and even my understanding.” It’s a way of saying and truly meaning, "Lord, I trust you, I may not see the whole picture now or what you're doing at the back, but I trust the One who does, the One who created me.”
When we give God our first fruits, we’re not offering Him leftovers. We’re giving Him the first part of our time, our energy, our decisions, our resources, and our hearts.
Looking back at the biblical times, first fruits were the very best and the very first of the harvest. Giving them to God required great faith; that's because the rest of the harvest wasn’t always guaranteed yet. That’s still very true today.
Giving God your first fruits means trusting Him before and after the breakthrough comes. It means honoring Him always.
It’s really easy to give God what’s left after everything works out, but that's the wrong approach; it doesn't show that you really place Him first in your life. Faith is giving Him the first part and believing He will take care of the rest.
The Scripture reminds us that when we acknowledge God in all our ways and give Him the first, He will direct our paths. Some people mistake it for the road being smooth, but it's not always like that. One thing that's guaranteed is that it will be purposeful.
He knows exactly which doors to open and when, when to delay you to protect you from something, and allow difficult seasons to reach you but only the ones that will grow you into the person He wants (1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.).
You need to understand that a life directed by God will always be better and far superior to a life lived by your own instinct or led by the devil. Keep this in mind too: "A God-led path is always better than a self-made one."
Our biggest enemy in trusting God isn't external circumstances—it's our own self-reliance. We live in a culture that celebrates independence, self-sufficiency, and "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps."One of the hardest parts of giving God our first fruits is letting go of control, and that's because we like to do all manner of useless calculations, and we like to know that if I give God this, I will still have some left. That is really wrong. We have started putting our faith in our sustenance instead of our source and sustainer, Jesus Christ. Giving Him your first fruit is a way of saying "THANK YOU, LORD.
Dear Heavenly Father, I confess that too often I give You what’s left instead of what comes first. Today, I choose to honor You with my first fruits—my time, my heart, my plans, and my trust. Teach me to put You first in every area of my life, help me make it a lifestyle. I surrender control and believe You will provide, guide, and multiply what I place in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
